KOLOMNA REGIONAL MUSEUM

One of the Kaluga’s oldest regional museums, a 1932 resolution by the Council of Worker and Peasant approved its creation.
The museum was at first operated in one of the local kremlin’s towers, but four years later relocated to the former Church of Michael the Archangel.
The museum’s collection is from various sources: Exhibits came from Russia’s main museums, from archives, private collections and as well as archaeological ones.
Up to 34,000 museum pieces represent the region’s history, culture and nature from ancient times to the present day and include objects from the peasant community, works of art as well as photographs and documents on the area’s history.
The museum relocated in 2006 to the Kolchinsky merchant estate, a historic site from the 18th and 19th centuries, and opened to the public on 8 February 2008.
The Lazhechnikov Merchant Estate, the former provincial governor’s house and the World War II Museum also make up the museum.
