TSIOLKOVSKY STATE MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF COSMONAUTICS

Approximately 160 kilometers south of Moscow in the town of Kaluga, the world’s first museum on the history of cosmonautics opened in 1967.
  The building’s design came from the Space Museum, and its main architects received in 1968 the USSR State Prize.
  The museum houses an entire range of exhibits on the theory and history of cosmonautics and of rocketry
  Works by cosmonautic theory founder Konstantin Tsiolkovsky are among the museum’s exhibits, and the museum annually gives lectures about the man himself.
  Works by other pioneers of rocketry are also on display; A separate exhibition presents the works of natural scientist Aleksandr Chizhevsky, who made a number of discoveries in the first half of the 20th century that were ahead of their time.
  The museum complex also includes a planetarium, Tsiolkovsky’s house, his apartment in the town of Borovsk (85 kilometers northeast of Kaluga) as well as a scientific memorial and cultural center dedicated to Chizhevsky.
